Tulane held a 20-12 lead midway through the first half, but the Wave allowed a 10-point run to give the Jaguars the lead. Southern led Tulane 39-35 at half and didn't give up the lead again for the rest of the game.
Tulane struggled with turnovers all night and the Jaguars capitalized on the 15 turnovers, picking off 36 points from the Wave's errors.
"When we had a chance with the lead in the first half, we didn't take care of the basketball," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "We had some careless turnovers."
In the second half, graduate student forward Jernard Jarreau was called for a double technical and was ejected from the game with 6:47 left to play.
