Tulane C Jeremy Montalbano out indefinitely after ankle surgery

Tulane baseball coach Travis Jewett said on Monday that catcher Jermey Montalbano will be out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ligament in his ankle and also having plate inserted into his broken fibula following an injury he sustained in Sunday's 18-5 loss to West Virginia.

Montalbano, a senior, suffered his injury in the fifth inning after West Virginia's Jackson Cramer rounded third in an attempt to score and ran over Montalbano on a play at the plate, causing Montalbano to injure his leg.

Jewett said the timetable for Montalbano's return is unclear, but there is still hope that he'll be able to come back before the end of the year.
