For more than 60 years, New Orleans native Harold Shelly was a fixture in press boxes across the city with a warm smile and friendly story for locals and visitors alike. Those press boxes recently lost the big personality.

Shelly died on Saturday, July 22, at his home. He was 94 years old.

He was well known in the New Orleans sports community and is fondly remembered.

Delgado baseball coach and athletic director Joe Scheuermann said Shelly brought him into the press box when he was young.

"He was a close friend of our family for years," he said.
