With Barker out for season, Troy Trojans turn to Smith as starting QB

TROY — Quarterback Kaleb Barker, who started the first six games of Troy's season, will miss the rest of it with a knee injury.

Coach Neal Brown said Monday that Barker tore a knee ligament in last week's 37-20 home win over Georgia State.

Sawyer Smith, who has played in every game, will make his first career start when the Trojans (5-1) play at Liberty (2-3) on Saturday.

Barker completed 73 percent of his passes for 1,013 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions this year.

Smith has completed almost 65 percent of his passes for 213 yards, three TDs and two interceptions.
