Whittemore, Davis deliver in place of injured stars; spark Troy win over Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – With standout playmakers slowed by injuries, Troy’s “steady Eddies” – as head coach Neal Brown called them – stepped up for the Trojans.

Wide receiver Luke Whittemore and slot receiver Sidney Davis provided big plays and quarterback Sawyer Smith guided an offense that enjoyed a nine-minute possession time advantage in Troy’s 35-21 victory over Georgia Southern at Paulson Stadium.

Davis caught 10 passes for 85 yards, set up a touchdown with a crucial fourth-and-2 pass to Smith and later threw a two-point conversion pass to Damion Willis.

Whittemore caught three passes for 110 yards – including back-to-back plays that covered 81 yards – and had a 29-yard touchdown reception.
