Weldon's catch draws smiles, jokes from Troy teammates

TROY – On a play designed for every teammate to feel good for Zacc Weldon, no one felt worse than Tray Eafford.

Weldon, Troy’s fourth-year junior fullback who was a prolific running back at G.W. Long High, recorded his first-ever college “touch” when he caught a pass in the right flat for a 3-yard gain to the Georgia State 1-yard line.

Jaylon Jones, the cornerback covering Eafford, slid off the receiver’s block and upended Weldon a couple feet short of the goal line.

“He hit my legs and I kind of went vertical and did a front flip,” Weldon said.
