TROY – Jordon Varnado scored on a putback with one second left to give Troy a much-needed 81-79 victory over Appalachian State on Monday night at Trojan Arena.
Justin Forrest scored on a layup with 8 seconds left for App State to tie it. Wesley Person then took the inbounds for Troy, rushed down the court and put up a shot that was off the mark. B.J. Miller got off a tip inside that missed before Varnado put in the winner.
“I just saw an opportunity to crash the offensive boards,” Varnado said. “B.J. went up there to try and tip it back in and I just saw the ball was a little short, so I went to go grab it and stick it back in.
