TROY — Troy had two injury-induced defensive changes pay off in big ways Saturday.
Marcus Webb and A.J. Smiley made their first starts at new positions and played major parts in the Trojans’ 49-28 win over Georgia Southern on Saturday.
Webb finished with three sacks among his seven tackles, while Smiley had four tackles at a position he, until a week ago, had never played.
“Their effort, their energy, they played with a lot of passion,” coach Chip Lindsey said.
Webb, normally a defensive tackle, moved to defensive end. Smiley, normally a linebacker, was Troy’s “bandit,” a hybrid linebacker/defensive end.
