The Buffalo Bills released cornerback Leodis McKelvin on Friday after he'd spent eight seasons with the NFL team.
The former Troy standout had one season remaining on a four-year, $17 million contract that he signed in 2013. McKelvin's release takes $3.9 million off the Bills' books for 2016.
McKelvin led the NFL in punt-return average at 18.7 yards in 2012, when he returned two punts for touchdowns, and he had his best season in 2013, when he broke up 20 passes and made 72 tackles.
McKelvin was enjoying another strong season in 2014 when he suffered a fractured ankle in the 10th game on Nov.
