The Trojans enter the Sun Belt Conference Tournament winners of seven of their last eight, but the first game of the tourney has been unkind to them recently. Ever since the event relocated to Lakefront Arena in New Orleans in 2014, the Trojans (17-12) have lost their opening round games by an average score of 66-53.
Troy coach Chanda Rigby believes if her Trojans can win the first one, it will give them enough confidence to win the event and earn the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
“There’s a big elephant in the room as far as we’ve lost the first game of the conference tournament the last couple of years,” she said.
