B.J. Smith’s biggest memory was just a few weeks ago when Neal Brown, after weeks of joking on Smith about an injury, pronounced him healthy.
Melvin Tyus’ biggest memory will be a combination of times Neal Brown stood before the Troy Trojans with encouragement that Tyus recognized went well beyond football.
The two Troy football players both said Friday that they were “happy” for Brown and “excited” for Brown, who is reportedly close to being named the coach at West Virginia.
“I wish him nothing but success,” said Smith, a running back from Stanhope Elmore who ran for 1,000 yards this season at Troy, the third 1,000-yard rusher in Brown’s four seasons.
