The 6-foot-4, 196-pound senior likely will move from Troy’s spear or nickel back to cornerback, where his physical ability will be more on display this fall.
“I love it. My length and my height, I’m ready to compete and lock down people this season,” Sunderland said after the Trojans practiced in shells on Tuesday.
Sunderland is a physical presence in the secondary, with the height to match up with tall receivers, the speed to match them stride-for-stride and enough experience to recognize what the offense is trying to do.
He started two games for Troy and played in all 13 games at spear.
