Troy Trojans continue to flirt with rankings

TROY — Brandon Silvers avoided the question with the deftness of a politician, slyly touting the Troy Trojans for their success without bluntly stating any goal.

The junior quarterback, in the aftermath of Troy’s 52-31 victory over UMass on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium, may have slipped in a campaign line for the Trojans to be ranked.

Or maybe not.

“My dad is a city councilman,” Silvers said. “He does a lot of campaigning, but I don’t do that.”

But what else can explain Silvers’ name-dropping after Troy’s latest success?

“South Carolina, Florida and Mississippi State,” Silvers noted, are three teams that failed to beat the Minutemen as convincingly as the Trojans (7-1).
