ATHENS, Ga. – Troy head baseball coach Mark Smartt succinctly summarized what he knew about the three other teams his Trojans could face this weekend in the Athens (Ga.) Regional on Monday.
“First and foremost, I know very little about any of those three teams,” he said. “We don’t typically compete against those type teams.”
Indeed, the Trojans (41-19) will face a bit of the unknown when they begin NCAA Tournament play today against Duke (40-15) at 1 p.m. at Foley Field, the home of the Georgia Bulldogs. The Trojans have never played Duke or Georgia in baseball, and Troy has not faced Campbell since the teams competed against each other in the Atlantic Sun Conference through the mid-2000s.
