The Trojans received 70 points in voting from the coaches, tied with Louisiana-LaFayette for the fifth most in the league. The Trojans and Ragin Cajuns were both three points behind fourth place Georgia State, which garnered 73 points in the poll.
Troy finished with a 3-5 league mark last year in the Sun Belt, tied for fifth with South Alabama, New Mexico State, Idaho and Louisiana-Lafayette. The Trojans finished 4-8 overall.
Appalachian State, last year’s conference runner-up (with 7-1 record), was voted as the preseason champion by the coaches, edging out last year’s champion, Arkansas State (8-0 last year).
