The Trojans shot 50 percent in the first half and led 31-25 at the break. But by the time Troy (6-14 overall, 1-8 Sun Belt Conference) started making shots consistently in the second half , South Alabama (8-12, 3-6) had taken a lead.
“To begin the second half, we just couldn’t hit an open shot – just couldn’t do it,” Trojans head coach Phil Cunningham said. “(We) got open look after open look, and we couldn’t step up and knock it down. At some point, you got to step up and make some shots.”
South Alabama jumped out to an 8-2 lead, but Troy battered the Jaguars inside for eight of its next 11 points to take a 13-9 lead with 14:22 left.
