TROY, Alabama – Central Michigan used a four-run third inning Sunday afternoon at Riddle-Pace Field to secure a 5-2 victory over Troy and split the season-opening series at two games apiece.
The Chippewas (2-2) strung together three consecutive RBI singles in that third inning, only one of which left the infield, to jump out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back. They were able to add another in the fourth on a solo homer from Gaoshua Williams, who finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the ballgame.
Down but not out yet, the young Troy (2-2) ball club made it interesting late when freshman drove in two runs on a no-out double in the bottom of the seventh – his first career hit.
