TROY – Sawyer Smith was climbing into his truck, eager to start a long weekend at home in the Pensacola area, when head coach Neal Brown passed on a few reminders.
Troy’s backup quarterback worked most of the last three quarters of last Thursday’s victory over Georgia State. Starting quarterback Kaleb Barker left the game with an injury early in the second after the Trojans built a 21-0 lead.
Ordinarily, that’s usually when Smith goes into the game. He had played in every game this season and contributed some big plays in the win over Nebraska. Against Georgia State, however, he got in and stayed in.
