Troy pounds Coastal Carolina 45-21 for fourth straight victory

Troy jumped out to a three-touchdown lead in the first quarter on the way to a 45-21 victory over Coastal Carolina at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

The win was the fourth straight for the Trojans, who improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Chanticleers fall to 3-2, 1-1.

Marcus Jones returned the opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown, then Jabir Daughtry-Frye added a 35-yard touchdown reception on a trick play from Luke Whittemore and B.J. Smith a 1-yard run as the Trojans led 21-0 after a quarter. Coastal Carolina added two touchdowns in the second quarter to pull within 21-14 before Tyler Sumpter's 46-yard field goal made it 24-14 at the break.
