STATESBORO, Georgia – Troy held off a hot-shooting Georgia Southern team, 97-81, on Thursday in Hanner Fieldhouse.
The Eagles' Alexis Brown scored a career-high 34 points and tied a school record with eight 3-pointers, but it would not be enough as the Trojans (14-2, 5-0 SBC) are off to the best start in program history.
Georgia Southern (5-11, 0-5) knocked down 10-of-13 shots from 3-point range in the first half, while Troy struggled missing its first eight from range. Harriet Winchester jump-started the Trojan offense with a pair of threes sandwiched around a Shaterrika O'Neal jumper as Troy opened the second quarter on a 10-2 run.
