“Troy sophomore baseball student-athlete Reid Long is currently being withheld from competition due to academics,” the statement said in its entirety. There was no indication of a timetable for his return was in place.
Long was batting .283 with a team-high two homers and 13 RBIs when he stopped appearing in the lineup. His last game was March 9 against Jacksonville State.
Long also made two appearances out of the bullpen, posting a 3.86 ERA in 2 1-3 innings of work.
Long, from Marianna, Fla., appeared in 48 games last season and started 46 en route to All-America honors.
