TROY – The Troy Trojans erased an early 14-3 deficit with big plays on offense, but pulled away from Georgia Southern with a ground game that got better as things unfolded Saturday in Statesboro, Ga.
“We didn’t rush for a whole bunch of yards, but they’re a tough front,” Troy offensive coordinator Matt Moore said. “I thought coach (Neal) Brown did a good job of continuing to call the run. Then when they would come down with the extra guy, we hit them over the top.”
The Trojans knew Georgia Southern’s option attack loved to run the ball and run the clock, but the Trojans beat them at their own game.
