Troy notebook: Johnson explodes in return to action

Johnson, a junior, recorded the first touchdown of his Trojan career in the second half of Troy’s 34-13 win over the Idaho Vandals at the Kibbie Dome. He also registered career highs in receptions (seven) and yards (128) in the contest.

“It’s been tough (battling the illness), but the support of my teammates helped me get through it,” Johnson said. “I’m pretty healthy. It’s a blessing.”

Johnson missed the Southern Miss game and played in a reserve role against New Mexico State after suffering a bout with an undisclosed illness. Trojans head coach Neal Brown said Johnson actually was sick through the first two games of the season, as well, but battled through the conditions to contribute two catches for 14 yards.
