With Troy facing a fourth-and-1 from its own 34, freshman running back Jabir Frye took a speed sweep for a 66-yard touchdown run. Frye, a track and football star at Escambia High in Pensacola, Fla., outraced the entire Clemson defense for the score.
“We had run something similar to it earlier, and I knew I had one man to miss,” Frye said of the run. “I (saw) nothing but grass.”
Before that time, Troy had converted just one of its five third-down conversion attempts and struggled in the run game. The score also came at a critical time since Clemson had just tallied its first touchdown to take a 10-3 lead.
