On Thursday, the Trojans led Louisiana-Lafayette 39-27 at the half but just shot 20.6 percent in the second half en route to a 73-63 loss. On Saturday, the Trojans (9-20 overall, 4-14 Sun Belt Conference) did not connect on a shot from the field for a 7:30 stretch, allowing the Warhawks (17-12, 13-5) to launch a 13-3 run that effectively put the game away.
“The thing that stood out to me was we didn’t have much in the tank,” Trojans head coach Phil Cunningham said. “The thing that stands out about these two teams is the one guy who was physically and mentally tough enough for us to play today and fight through some fatigue was John (Walton III), and he’s our only senior.
