TROY – A showdown with a rival wasn’t enough to stop Troy’s late-season slide.
South Alabama’s Josh Ajayi scored 18 points, Trhae Mitchell had 16 points and 14 rebounds and the Jaguars pulled away to a lopsided 68-52 victory when the Trojans couldn’t buy a basket for much of the second half.
Troy fell to 11-15 overall and 4-10 in Sun Belt Conference action. The Trojans have dropped seven of their past eight games. In that stretch was an 81-75 loss to South Alabama in Mobile.
The Jaguars (13-14, 6-8) served notice early it wouldn’t be affected by Troy’s “whiteout” game in front of 3,049 at Trojan Arena.
