Trojans head coach Neal Brown said spear (nickelback) Tyquae Russell and offensive lineman Steven Rowzee will be on scholarship this fall. Both juniors are expected to contribute this season, he added.
They also bolster depth at positions where it is needed. Russell (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) adds another player to the spear position, which will be without AJ Smiley, who suffered a “significant foot injury” late in the T-Day spring game in April.
Smiley will take a medical redshirt while recovering, therefore missing the 2016 season, Brown noted.
