TROY – Troy wide receiver Luke Whittemore was almost too honest. He said he had trouble spotting Jabir Daughtry-Frye on the trick play that produced a 35-yard touchdown pass during the Trojans’ 45-21 victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
“The offensive line was standing there,” Whittemore explained Monday as he described the play where he took a backwards pass from quarterback Kaleb Barker in the left flat, then threw deep for Daughtry-Frye down the right hash marks. “I was more looking at the defense. When the safety and corner bit down, I caught it and heard the crowd get excited, so I knew he was open.
