TROY – A Troy quarterback rushed for a critical long touchdown for the second consecutive game, but this time the honors did not belong to senior starter Brandon Silvers.
Sophomore backup Kaleb Barker sprinted for a 48-yard score in the early portion of the second quarter, giving the Trojans a 16-3 lead over Akron and some breathing room. Last week, Silvers notched the decisive touchdown with a 32-yard scoring scamper against New Mexico State that helped Troy capture a 27-24 win.
Barker said he tries to mimic Silvers’ running ability, even though Silvers admits Barker is faster.
