Troy football linebacker Carlton Martial made 18 tackles in a 31-28 win over Texas State last Saturday. Eight of those tackles were solo. Martial also had two tackles for loss.
Martial was named to the All-Sun Belt first team last season after leading the country with 113 tackles. He was a semifinalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, which goes to the top player who began their career as a walk-on. Last year against Coastal Carolina, Martial made 21 tackles, second-most in school history and tied for the most in an FBS game all season.
Troy held Texas State to zero points in the fourth quarter.
