Birmingham, Ala. – Troy was unable to overcome an early deficit and dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Samford in non-conference baseball action at J.L. Griffin Field on Wednesday night.
The Trojans (21-20) out hit the Bulldogs (31-11) eight to four but three costly walks in the second inning would give Samford the edge it would need to hold off Troy.
At the plate, senior Chase Smartt led the way going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double while freshman Logan Cerny followed behind with a two-hit performance (2-3) with two runs scored.
