FOLEY, Alabama – The eighth-seeded Troy women's soccer team fell to No. 1 South Alabama, 1-0, in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Wednesday. The Trojans finish the season with a 7-10-3 record.
South Alabama's Ashlynn Jones scored the game's only goal in the 80 minute when Troy's backline misplayed a pass. Jones intercepted the ball, streaked towards goal, beat the keeper one-on-one and passed it into the back of the net. The Trojans outshot USA 12-10 in the game but were unable to convert on their chances.
The last 10 meetings between the schools have been decided by one goal.
