For a while, it looked like it might be letdown and out for Clemson softball.
The Tigers, who battled No. 3 overall seed Alabama in an eventual 6-0 loss earlier Saturday, seemed in jeopardy of also losing to Troy and being eliminated from the Tuscaloosa Regional of the NCAA softball tournament.
It was 1-1 headed to the seventh inning and Clemson’s run was unearned. Troy, ranked No. 48 in the RPI, was making its first trip to a regional since 1996 and the Trojans (37-17) were coming off their first-ever NCAA tournament win.
But the Tigers (44-7) survived with a 4-2 victory and will face Alabama again in Sunday’s 2 p.
