Sun Belt race heats up as Troy faces Appalachian State

The next two weekends will play a big role in determining the first-place finisher – or finishers – for 2016.

Appalachian State (7-2, 5-0) heads to Alabama to face Troy (7-1, 4-0) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., and the Trojans have another home game against Arkansas State (4-4, 4-0) a week later.

None of the other nine Football Bowl Subdivision conferences have three teams that still possess unbeaten league records, as the Mountain West (Wyoming, San Diego State) and Pac-12 (Washington, Washington State) are the only conferences with two unbeaten frontrunners.

“Any time you’re undefeated, you can control what happens throughout the league,” App State coach Scott Satterfield said Monday.
