Sun Belt Conference commissioner Karl Benson will step down when his contract expires in June, according to multiple reports.
Benson, 66, has been Sun Belt commissioner since 2012. During his tenure, the conference has added members such as Georgia State, UT Arlington, Texas State, Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina and will play its first football championship game this fall.
Benson was previously commissioner of the Western Athletic Conference from 1994-2012 and the Mid-American Conference from 1990-94. A Washington native, he played baseball at Boise State in the early 1970s.
