But Troy’s defensive end from Slocomb via Itawamba Community College in Mississippi erases some of his mistakes with relentless effort. That point was emphasized when the Trojans watched game film of last Saturday’s 45-21 victory over Coastal Carolina.
“We showed several clips of him and how his motor runs, encouraging, ‘Hey, this is the standard, guys. If we can all play at the level that Jarvis Hayes is playing, the sky is the limit around here,’” Troy head coach Neal Brown said Monday.
It wasn’t just Hayes’ eight tackles against the Chanticleers, although Brown called that total “almost unheard of” for a defensive end who starts every play with his hand in the dirt in a three-point stance.
