TROY, Ala. – The architect of one of the nation's top defenses, Troy defensive coordinator Shiel Wood is a nominee for the Broyles Award, presented annually to college football's top assistant coach since 1996.
In his first season at Troy, Wood has led the Trojans to one of the best defensive seasons in both program and Sun Belt Conference history. The Trojans have allowed just 167 points and 20 touchdowns this season; it is the second-fewest points and touchdowns allowed through 10 games in Troy's DI history. At the conference level, the tallies rank as the second-fewest in Sun Belt history by just six points and one touchdown.
