TROY — The call was crisp and emphatic, leaving the Troy Trojans little time to ponder its meaning.
Facing a lengthy third-down situation, Troy called together its punt unit. When the Trojans were left with a fourth-and-2, the punt unit came forth with these words, uttered by special teams coordinator Brian Blackmon.
They were both succinct and encyclopedic.
“Rooskie. Run it,” Blackmon screamed.
What emerged at the next snap was both vexing and wondrous, amazing in both its simplicity and duplicity, and as suspenseful as a best-selling novel.
Boiling it down to its essence strips away so much of the fun, but it’s necessary.
