NFL Playoffs: 'We weren't going to play another play without DeMarcus Ware out there'

With the New England Patriots lining up to try for a 2-point conversion with 12 seconds left in Sunday's AFC Championship Game, the Denver Broncos used their final timeout. Denver coach Gary Kubiak didn't call the timeout to discuss defensive strategy with his team. He did it to keep outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware on the field.

"We called timeout on the 2-point play because DeMarcus was beat up, took himself out," Kubiak said, "and we weren't going to play another play without him out there. Not if I could help it."

New England had scored with 12 seconds to play to cut Denver's lead to 20-18.
