MSU explodes early to down Troy

The start for Troy was fairly uncharacteristic given Troy’s usually stout pitching – especially from Troy freshman starter Cory Gill of Cottonwood. Gill entered the game with a 0.93 ERA in his six mid-week starts before Wednesday.

But the Bulldogs (34-14-1) carried plenty of momentum from winning nine of their last 11,and it showed as their potent offense struck quickly and often.

Gill walked Jack Kruger with one out. Nathaniel Lowe followed with a single, and Gavin Collins’ ground-rule double plated Kruger to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

Brent Rooker followed with a single to drive home Lowe, and Collins scored on a wild pitch to up the lead to 3-0.
