In two diverging paths, Mississippi State women’s basketball sank while Troy hit its stride.
The game had been close for much of the fourth quarter Saturday, the first of three home games in three days — a span that will test the Bulldogs’ resolve, considering the lack of depth already available. But as Mississippi State missed four straight shots, including three 3-pointers, the Trojans knocked down five straight attempts.
What had been a two-point lead for the Bulldogs evaporated into an eight-point deficit with under two minutes to play. And while Caterrion Thompson knocked down two triples as time wound down, the discrepancy on the boards and the inability to penetrate the lane against a zone defense doomed Mississippi State (7-3) in a 73-66 loss against Troy (7-5) at Humphrey Coliseum.
