Steven Whitaker led off the ninth inning for Troy (27-21, 12-12 Sun Belt) with a bunt single to the pitcher and advanced to second on a bunt by Shaw Pinnell. Brandon Lockridge moved Whitaker to third with a bunt but beat out the throw to reach base safely at first.
The next batter, Matt Sanders, reached on a fielder’s choice to the pitcher and drove in Whitaker to cut the deficit to two runs, 4-2. Lockridge advanced to third on the play with a throwing error by the pitcher, and scored on Joey Denison’s sacrifice fly to left field.
