As media members and representatives of the 11 current (and one future) Sun Belt Conference football members descend on the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for Monday's media day, conference realignment might once again be the burning topic.
It certainly has been for the last few years.
When Western Kentucky departed the Sun Belt for Conference USA officially in 2014, it left the conference with a precarious amount of teams – 11, one short of the 12 the NCAA requires to play a conference title game. Conference title games often bring plenty of exposure (i.e. revenue) and punctuate a regular season with a definitive champion instead of leaving doubt in a system where teams rarely face all of their conference foes in one season.
