In the depths of any ocean, scientists say tsunamis are barely recognizable.
The waves only grow to potentially devastating heights as they approach a shore and water depth diminishes. All the energy that formed the waves, usually caused by an undersea earthquake, pushes forth and causes substantial rises in wave height – leading to significant impacts on a coastline.
