In the minutes after Troy’s 42-32 Dollar General Bowl victory over Buffalo on Saturday night, Troy coach Neal Brown couldn’t help but take a bittersweet look back.
“Being at full strength, I think it kind of gives you a glimpse of what maybe we could have been,” Brown said, referring to the decimating injuries that crippled his team’s championship hopes late in the regular season.
After a four-week layoff and throwing to a fully functioning receiver corps – along with the addition of speedy defensive back Marcus Jones – quarterback Sawyer Smith captured MVP honors when he completed 31 of 44 passes for 320 yards and four touchdowns.
