TROY – Promising to awaken “a sleeping giant,” new Troy men’s basketball coach Scott Cross hit the ground running at his introductory press conference in the Stadium Club at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday.
Cross, this season an assistant coach at TCU, was a head coach for 12 years at UT-Arlington, in the same Sun Belt Conference as Troy. Cross averaged 19 wins a season before the school fired him last March after three consecutive 20-win seasons.
Cross led UTA to the 2008 NCAA Tournament and two NIT appearances. The Mavericks won 27 games and reached the NIT quarterfinals in 2017, when they won the Sun Belt’s regular-season championship.
