With all the football talent that has come out of Alabama's high schools and colleges, how could the players possibly be trimmed, then sorted into some kind of order to determine the 100 "greatest" among them?
After all, the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame has 159 members in its football category alone and more than 260 players from the state's high schools and colleges have been consensus All-Americans or NFL Pro Bowlers.
Rather than rely completely on opinion, the AL.com list of the 100 greatest players with Alabama football roots relied on a points system, assigning values to try to determine the greatest football careers, which is different from determining the best players.
