TROY, Ala. – Senior Sadler Goodwin hit a two-run homer in the first and a solo shot in the sixth, but Jacksonville State scored three in the top of the eighth to down Troy, 9-7, in the first midweek contest of the season at Riddle-Pace Field Wednesday.
Goodwin – who's lone homer of his career was a grand slam against Louisiana in the Sun Belt Tournament last season – hit a two-run blast to cap-off a three-run opening frame for the Trojans (4-4). The senior finished 3-for-5 with three RBI in the contest.
Reed Smith started things off with a bang, tripling on the first pitch he saw to lead off the bottom of the first inning.
