Former Troy University basketball coach Don Maestri talks to his team during a game against Middle Tennessee State. After three seasons away from the game, Maestri will return to coaching as an assistant at Texas A&M.
Maestri, Troy’s career wins leader with 500 victories in his 31 years as head coach of the Trojans before he resigned after the 2012-13 season, will be a special assistant to head coach Billy Kennedy at Texas A&M.
Maestri and Kennedy, both New Orleans natives, have been friends through basketball for many years. However, the pragmatic part of the game – wins and losses – demands that friendship only goes so far.
