Former Cottonwood standout Cory Gill pitches well in Troy debut

Freshman Cory Gill, a former Cottonwood standout, got the start on the mound, but came away with a no decision. He pitched five innings, only allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out eight , the most of any starting pitcher this season.

The last time the Trojans completed an opening series sweep was in 2013, when Troy defeated Florida A&M all four games. That same year was also the last time Troy won 40 plus games and made an NCAA Regional appearance.

“I’m really excited about our teams performance this weekend,” head coach Mark Smartt said.
